A Latimer Enterprises Initiative

Equip the Next Generation of Energy Engineers

Latimer Energy Academy turns science, math, and engineering into real work your child, students, or community members can do. Real tools, real data, real systems. Only 3 in 10 students nationally reach proficiency in science and math by 8th grade—we're here to change that.

Real Work. Real Data. Real Outcomes.

Every Latimer Energy Academy mission is an engineering project from day one — students build real devices, collect their own data, and present findings to a real audience.

Build a Working Smart Meter

Students use a mini-computer (microcontroller) to measure live wattage, calculate electricity costs to the dollar, and identify which devices waste the most money.

Run a Real Device Battle

Students pit a legacy device against a modern one in a head-to-head energy audit—applying data-integrity standards to filter noise before calculating year-scale dollar savings.

Present a Power Pitch

Teams project their audit findings across a full building and a full year, then deliver a professional Savings Roadmap to a real client—defending every number in a live Q&A.

Train an AI Energy Predictor

Students label hundreds of sensor readings, train a machine-learning model to forecast future power demand or generation using a mini-computer (microcontroller), then map their small-scale prediction to a larger system.

Build a Physical Microgrid

Students integrate solar, thermoelectric, and battery-storage hardware on a shared circuit and write the code that keeps critical services running when the main grid fails.

Deploy an Air Quality Sentinel

Students build a solar-powered IoT sensor that harvests its own energy, logs air quality readings continuously, and maps pollution hotspots using their own live data.

Verified in the Classroom

In our Indianapolis pilot, 39 fourth-grade students completed every lesson from start to finish — coding real mini-computers (microcontrollers), collecting live energy readings, and presenting their findings to an audience.

Student enjoyment

72% of students gave it a 5-star rating

Reported learning something new

Every student who took the survey said they learned something new

Students completed the entire course

Every student finished all five lessons, coded a mini-computer (microcontroller), and presented findings

Energy Literacy

39 fourth-grade students completed all five lessons, programmed their mini-computers (microcontrollers), collected their own readings, calculated potential savings, created presentation posters, presented their findings to an audience, and developed their own recommendations for how the savings could be used.
